Welcome to Belgian Chips

3 St James's St, Kemptown, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 1RE, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked along the lively stretch of St James’s Street in Kemptown, Brighton, Belgian Chips is the kind of spot you notice the moment the smell of freshly cooked fries hits the pavement. This casual restaurant focuses on one simple idea-serving great Belgian chips-but the experience feels far more memorable than your average fry stop.

Walking in, the atmosphere is relaxed and easygoing. It’s a place that works perfectly for solo dining, especially if you’re exploring Brighton on your own and want something satisfying without a long wait. The seating area is wheelchair accessible, which makes the space comfortable and welcoming for different visitors. There’s also a restroom available, and paying is straightforward thanks to debit card support.

The real draw, of course, is the menu. Belgian Chips keeps things focused but flavorful. Their Absolutely, French Fries are crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, the kind that instantly remind you why Belgian-style chips have such a strong reputation. Each bite has that golden crunch followed by a soft, warm center.

For something with more kick, the Peri Peri Fries are a standout. The seasoning adds just the right amount of heat without overpowering the natural flavor of the chips. It’s a bold but balanced choice that regulars often mention in their reviews.

Another menu item that catches attention is the Regular Chips in a Box with Chicken Strips. It’s a generous portion and works perfectly when you want something filling yet easy to enjoy while sitting casually or even taking it to go. The crispy chicken pairs well with the classic Belgian chips, creating a satisfying combination.

Snacks are also part of the experience here. The Cheese Sticks are a popular side, offering a warm, melty center wrapped in a crisp coating. They complement the fries nicely and make the meal feel a little more indulgent.

The location itself adds to the charm. Being right in Kemptown means you’re surrounded by Brighton’s vibrant streets, shops, and seaside energy. Many visitors stop by while exploring nearby spots, making Belgian Chips a convenient place to recharge with comfort food.

What stands out most is how straightforward the experience feels. The restaurant doesn’t try to be overly complicated. Instead, it focuses on good ingredients, quick service, and a relaxed setting. That simplicity is exactly why so many people return, whether they’re locals looking for their favorite fries or travelers discovering the place for the first time.

Between the flavorful chips, easy atmosphere, and central Brighton location, the experience feels authentic and satisfying-exactly what you want from a small restaurant dedicated to doing one thing exceptionally well.

“ Love their chicken popcorn with my favorite samurai sauce and smoked paprika. The quantity is pretty good for the price. Their chicken is halal ⭐ ”

“ Well, chips are chips anywhere you go. They're pretty difficult to get wrong – and any place that manages so should be avoided. Thankfully, this isn't the case with this place, though I do wonder if the £4.35 for regular chips plus sauce (hot chilli, in my case) is justified. One thing I do credit the sauce for, nonetheless, is it had seeds and bits of pepper skin in it – rare for a fast food place. Also, it at least tingled the tongue. As for the chips themselves: quite a generous portion for regular and not many miserable dregs at the end, which is a bonus. I only eat chips when I need my junk fixes. Next time I'm in Brighton and that 'fix' descends on me again, I'll be back to this place. ”

“ Belgian Chips is on the way to the Brighton beach from the Brighton Train station. If you are looking for the quick snack before heading to the beach, Belgian chips will fulfill your taste buds. The chips are very crispy, hot and tasty as well. The rate is very reasonable. They have vegan and vegetarian options with wide variety of chips and sauces. Tip: Dont forget to click photograph with the FRIES GUY. ”

“ Place is for: chips, french fries , chicken popcorn, chicken chips, nuggets Nothing in different, but chicken chips have quality chicken itself; without other fillings.Thats the main attraction!! ”

- Avani Subiraj -

“ Great quick chips spot with wide array of flavours available! The chips were fresh and were sold in a good quantity. There were multiple sauces and seasonings to pick from and I had the buffalo hot wing sauce mixed with peri peri which was a great combo. The tikka masala sounds interesting and might return for that. Would have liked it to be more saucy but was a great snack overall. ”

- Amulay Chadha -

“ Even the small size was a right portion, and the chips are good. Different sauces to choose (I chose the andaluse sauce and was good). ”

- Roberto Herrera -

“ My medium organic fries, sprinkled with salt and organic cumin, were absolutely delicious. Easy access. Friendly efficient staff. ”
